The ideal patient for this procedure is the mother who has completed her family, who is on her ideal body weight and is stuck with an excessive amount of loose abdominal skin.
The typical appearance is that of a skin pouch or apron between the belly button and the pubic bone. During pregnancy the rectus abdominis [six pack] muscles are also driven apart by the growing uterus, this is also repaired during a tummy tuck procedure.
The procedure is performed through a horizontal incision in the natural crease line just above the pubis. All excess skin is removed and the underlying muscle plicated in the midline.
